It has been learnt recently that Professor Shuming Zhao, Dean of the School of Business, Nanjing University was elected as President of International Association of Chinese Management Research (IACMR) during the Third Conference.

The third IACMR Biennial Conference on the theme of “The Olympic Spirit in Chinese Management Research” has been successfully held in Guangzhou, People’s Republic of China, on June 19-22, 2008. The organizer is IACMR with co-sponsors of Sun Yat-sen University, Nanjing University, Gaoxiong Sun Yat-sen University in Taiwan, Guangdong University of Business Studies, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, Hong Kong Baptist University, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Jinan University, Macao University, South China Agricultural University, Shantou University, South China Technology University, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen University, and Xiamen University. The organizing process of the conference was very professional from beginning to end. This conference had a well balanced mix of paper presentations by scholars who focused on China management research with keynote speeches by some world famous researchers. The papers presented at the conferences were of high quality through a double-blind review procedure. The total number of the papers submitted to the biennial conference has significantly increased to 360, which is about 45% more than the previous conference held in Nanjing two years ago. Particularly, this was the first time that two separate sets of programs: one in English, one in Chinese, were simultaneous available during the conference. The English program had 28 paper sessions, 3 symposia, 5 keynote sessions, and 4 poster paper sessions, while the Chinese Forum had 21 paper sessions, 2 keynote sessions, and 4 poster paper sessions. Nearly 700 scholars and entrepreneurs, of whom about 250 from abroad, attended the conference.

The third IACMR Biennial Conference

IACMR was founded in the United States by world-class American Chinese scholar, Professor Anne Tsui, and she was the founding president. The second President was Professor Xiaoping Chen from the University of Washington. So far, IACMR has already successfully organized three biennial conferences with world-class standard- comparable with the AOM (Academy of Management) conference. The first conference was held in Beijing organized by Guanghua School of Management of Beijing University and other universities in 2004, the second one was held in Nanjing organized by the School of Business of Nanjing University and other universities in 2006, and the third one was held in Guangzhou organized by School of Management of Sun yet-sen university and other institutions this year.

The total number of IACMR members has increased dramatically from 66 founding members to more than 4,600 today. IACMR has now made a successful transition from the growth phase to the early phases of maturity. We believe that IACMR has become and will continue to be one of the leading management professional association organizations in the world. The next conference will be organized by the School of Management of Fudan University. It will be held in Shanghai in 2010.
